Winchester, VA, 1.

We are at the Candy Hill Campground, about 5 minutes drive from historic Winchester. Love the place and city and have our grandson with is until July 5. He joined us Monday and life has not been the same since. I am riding my bike at least 4 times a day, go swimming 2 times a day and mined gold with him yesterday. Still have a birdhouse to paint and do more mining. Today we'll go and watch Toy Story 4. Yeah!!! Dinosaurs are out (I was so looking forward to it) but they scare him. His mother used to love them. So I asked her what he has from her and she said "the ability to tan".
The day before he came to join us Don and I visited historic Winchester. Beautiful architecture, mixed with modern and so European. I love this city!

Wir sind in Winchester, Candy Hill Campground, ca. 5 Minuten vom historischen Viertel entfernt. Sehr schoene Architektur, gemischt mit modern und sehr Europaeisch. Ich bin begeistert von dieser Gegend!
Momentan haben wir unseren Enkelsohn zu Besuch, der am 5. July wieder abgeholt wird. Seit seiner Ankunft hat sich unser Leben veraendert. Ich fahre mindestens 4x am Tag Fahrrad, gehe 2x schwimmen, suche nach Gold, schmelze Schokolade ueber Campfeuer und falle todmuede ins Bett. Heute gehen wir ins Kino und schauen uns Toy Story 4 an. Yeah!!! Pepere Don sucht sich einen anderen Film aus. Wollten uns Dinosaurier anschauen (hatte mich schon so darauf gefreut), doch unser Enkelsohn hat Angst vor ihnen. Fragte unsere Tochter, die Dinosaurier liebte, was ihr Sohn von ihr mitbekommen hat und sie sagte "seine Haut braeunt in der Sonne".

Last night in this quaint little town. The historic center is absolutely lovely, the people are friendly and seem to take pride in their environment. From 1899 to 2012 this town was the largest gin cotton producer of the WORLD. I really like this place but one part that ruins it on days when the wind blows in the wrong direction. Hard to get over the smell produced by a papermill! Luckily our campsite was far enough away.  Kountry RV is a beautiful place, green, flowery, inviting and worth 5 stars in ratings. Would come here again during festival season... oh, and to visit the Far Off Broadway Theatre. 3 Tage, 2 Naechte, Morgen geht es weiter. Prattville ist eine schoene kleine historische Stadt, wo Cotton bis 2012 die groesste Rolle spielte. Ich bin begeistert von dem Ort, der alte Geschichte auch in Architektur erhaelt. Museum of Appalachia, Clinton TN

Last day. Went to see the Museum (which is more like a Homestead) to show the history of the Appalachia people. Great place to visit! Peacocks were running around, not shy at all, lunch was wonderful (much is harvested on the premises) and the preservation of the buildings and tools simply awesome. Beautiful place! Letzter Tag hier. Besuchten das Appalachia Museum, das mehr wie eine Kleinstadt aufgebaut ist. Pfaue sind nicht scheu und laufen ueberall herum, unser Mittagessen war eine Wucht (Gemuese aus dem eigenen Garten und alles frisch zubereitet), der Aufbau und die Wiederherstellung der Gebaeude und Preservation der hiesigen Geschichte einzigartig. Ein wunderschoenes Anwesen!

Oak Ridge and Rocky Top, TN

Went to the movies, watching Anna. $ 5 for the matinee, with reclining seats and the whole theatre for ourselves. Yeah! Afterwards we went to the Oak Ridge Art Center and enjoyed an inspiring water color and pastel painting exhibit. Great place to take classes. Drove to the Coal Creek Miners Museum in Rocky Top, where  in the late 1800 "free" miners fought against the convict lease system and were many miners lost their lives in mining disasters. Events there led to the fall of President Buchanen. Interesting history for sure. Rocky Top is and I guess has been for a long time already a dying town with long stretches of empty shops. Waren im Kino. $ 5 per seat mit Fernsehsesseln und ohne weitere Besucher. Yeah! Danach besuchten wir das Kunstmuseum in Oak Ridge, wo zur Zeit eine tolle Ausstellung von Aquarellen und Pastellbildern gezeigt wird. War sehr motivierend.
